Thanks for coming!

Friends,

Thanks for coming out to the 2nd Annual CaribbeanTales Film Festival. We had an incredible time! It was wonderful to witness the range and high quality of film and television work of fellow Trinidadians worldwide. The schedule of films & filmmakers is online for you here. We hope to have an opportunity to screen some of the films again during the year.

It was a particular privelege for me to honour legendary film director Horace Ove CBE, and to recognize the extraordinary work of Gayelle The Channel and its co-founder and CEO Chris Laird.

Special thanks to all our Sponsors, and especially The Trinidad & Tobago Film Company for facilitating the participation of the T&T contingent.

Til next year friends when we promise to come bigger and better with an even more stunning line-up of films from the Caribbean region.

The Festival also saw the Launch of TALK IT OUT, our nationwide, anti-violence tour of award-winning film A Winter Tale. After the screening cast and crew were on hand for an electric and passionate discussion with the audience about the issues raised by the film.We are now busy setting up screenings in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax and Vancouver, and will keep you posted on details of the Tour, as well as up-coming Festival screenings of A Winter Tale in your area, and of course the eagerly-awaited DVD release, scheduled for '08.

Join A Winter Tale's Facebook Group, for regular updates on the TALK IT OUT TOUR!

TALK IT OUT: Read the PRESS RELEASE

CaribbeanTales 2nd Annual Film Festival: Peruse the full program here.

Frances-Anne Solomon’s Award-Winning feature launches "TALK IT OUT", a Canada-wide anti-violence program for youth.

"Solomon and her cast deliver extraordinarily credible, emotionally raw and sincere performances..."

"...violence is not a spectator sport, and nowhere in this film could you simply watch - you felt the call to action, and even discussion."
Expose Magazine (Read the full review here).

"A Winter Tale" tells the emotional story of a Black Men's support group that meets in a Caribbean Takeaway restaurant, in the wake of the death by gunfire of a young child in Toronto. It offers a brilliant and ultimately positive perspective on the timely topic of gun violence in the city.

The film won the Award for Outstanding Canadian Feature at this year's ReelWorld Film Festival, and was hailed by media and audiences alike as "very compelling" and “exactly what Toronto needs”.

Now it will be used to promote discussion and anti-violence strategies, in a wide-ranging Canada-wide tour called “TALK IT OUT” aimed at urban high school youth and communities in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax and Vancouver.

"TALK IT OUT" will have it’s Official Launch on Sunday July 15th at 6pm, at the Workman Cinema, as the Closing Night Presentation at the CaribbeanTales 2nd Annual Film Festival

"A Winter Tale", written, directed and produced by Frances-Anne Solomon, features a talented ensemble cast led by Canadian stars Peter Williams and Michael Miller, along with Caribbean icons Leonie Forbes and Dennis “Sprangalang” Hall. The script was developed over a 4-year collaborative process of research and improvisation with the cast.

The CaribbeanTales 2nd Annual Film Festival is proud to host this special community screening of the film, after which Solomon and the cast will be on hand for a Q&A.
